Pikacyu - Makoto

So I heard from Alex that his band would be playing with Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple... With Pikacyu from Afrirampo and her Manic pounding combined with Makoto's blistering speed king psych rock space guitar noise, I figured I had to check it out. The lineup was Hooves, Space movies, Mugu Guymen and then Pikacyu - Makoto. All this for $5.00. All the bands were great. The show was amazing. I might even say mind openingly good. If you get a chance to see them live, do not miss out.

J. Mascis "Several shades of why"

"Several shades of why" is a sedate acoustic confessional.
J. sounds completely at home in this setting. It is a testament to his songwriting that the transition from his normal feedback and distortion to this intimate, friends in your living room feel works so well. And with lyrics like "I know my love is over, I wish I didn't know." matching the melancholy ache you can hear in his voice. This record is a triumph but a moody one at that.

Jesu "Heartache & Dethroned" LP Pink vinyl

The long awaited reissue of "Heartache" is here and on pink vinyl none the less. Compiled with the newly finished "Dethroned" this is an interesting pairing. The debut and the most recent packaged together gives a wonderful look at the growth of this project and Justin Broadricks ability to float between two worlds which often seem exclusive if not completely seperate from one another. This release is beautifully textured while remaining brutal & heavy at the same time. A delight.

New Tour Dates

John Vanderslice (besides being an amazing producer and a great musician, he very well may be the nicest man in rock music) just released some new tour dates. If you get a chance you gotta see him. Looks like he's is skipping my town this time around. Perhaps it is time for a road trip...

Emmylou Harris "Wrecking Ball"

Mid 90's I loved this cd. Pulled it out the other day. I still love it. Her voice has this way of getting inside you. It is haunting and beautiful.

Henry Threadgill "Too Much Sugar For A Dime"

In 1993 I fell in love with this recording. It was my first experience with Mr. Threadgill and his Very Very Circus. Returning to it earlier this week, I still find the collage of musical styles and odd instrumentation to be fresh and exciting. What a record. The pinacle for the V.V.C.

Matthew Ward Toward Eternity LP

I remember this record from my youth.
It still sounds great.
Remember the killer bees
